Compact Fluorescent Lights
Compact fluorescent lamps are designed to replace incandescent lamps and reduce the carbon footprint of a building. Most are capable of retrofitting into existing light fixtures formerly occupied by incandescent bulbs, making it necessary only to buy the lamp and save on the cost of replacement fixtures. This shift toward CFL retrofitting is part of a global movement to produce the carbon footprint of commercial buildings. It is estimated that 40% of all greenhouse gases are produced by commercial properties. Because a significant portion of the electricity used to power building lights is still produced by burning coal, oil, and natural gas, inefficient light fixtures contribute to increased fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Energy saving alternatives such as compact fluorescent lighting has become increasingly prevalent in the world of indoor and outdoor lighting for this very reason. It is hoped that by reducing the consumption of electricity with more power-saving commercial fluorescent light fixtures, the need to burn fossil fuel will decrease, and the pollution caused by burning fossil fuels will proportionally decrease as a result.
Regardless of whether or not retrofitting incandescent fixtures with compact fluorescent light bulbs will actually have enough of a positive impact to reverse rising global temperatures, CFLs are nevertheless here to stay. They have already found their way into most forms of commercial indoor and outdoor lighting, and the technology behind their functionality is constantly being fine tuned and re-engineered for even greater efficiency and color rendering capabilities. Any contractor looking to be taken seriously should become as familiar as possible with commercial fluorescent lighting. As more companies sweat the problematics of rising fuel costs, inflation, recessionary downturns, contractors must make available every form of technology that offers a glimmer of financial hope and environmental sustainability beyond the horizons of the current crisis.

Commercial Fluorescent Lighting Fixtures
Before we look at the many benefits offered by commercial fluorescent light fixtures, we need to briefly revisit a few of the many problems our clients frequently encounter with incandescent lights. The first and most painful of these problems for any size or type of business is high costs. Every organization accepts the necessary evil of overhead-provided that spending money on overhead means generating higher profits down the line. However, using energy inefficient equipment that could easily and affordably be replaced by better technology amounts to throwing profits into an incandescent fire. The commercial fluorescent lights lower electric bills across the board with improved, energy efficient, technology that makes them ideal for lighting any factory, warehouse, or office. Because they also emit less heat than incandescent, they help maintain cooler temperatures in offices and production areas. Extremely bright incandescent can also produce glare that hurts the eyes and in some instances creates safety hazards. The fluorescent light fixture technology is designed for glare free comfort, optimal safety, and longer lamp life that require fewer bulb replacements.
A number of key technological features make it possible for the commercial fluorescent light fixtures to function as luminary solutions to every challenge of power and light. Our commercial lighting fluorescents come designed with special energy saving ballasts that are manufactured with federal energy efficient standards foremost in mind. These ballasts are housed within the fixtures and control current to the fluorescent bulbs themselves. Ballasts also offer the additional benefit of regulating electron flow in such as way as to eliminate the stereotypical flickering of previous fluorescent lights or inferior generic equivalents. The commercial grade fluorescent light fixtures represent the highest level of equipment engineering and manufacturing quality available in our industry. All models are UL/CUL listed as well to ensure value to both U.S. and Canadian business owners. Because we do business as well in many humidity prone regions such as the American Gulf Coast, we carry a number of commercial fluorescent light fixtures that have been specifically developed for long lamp life in damp regions-regions where incandescent may sometimes short when the humidity levels peak. We also make it a point to supply our clients with commercial fluorescent lighting fixtures that manufactured with baked, white enamel finishes and polyester powder coatings that minimize radiant heat. We even have certain high-end models that provide additional fixture protection with rust inhibitors that protect metal parts from oxidation, and low brightness/extruded acrylic refractors that eliminate glare in critical work areas.

Commercial Fluorescent Lights For Energy Efficiency and Operating Cost Reduction
Recent laws have been passed that require all incandescent lights to be replaced by 2010 at the latest. Because of this, commercial fluorescent lights are going to play a major role in future lighting design for businesses, non-profits, schools, and municipalities in the years to come. We recommend you encourage your clients to invest now rather than wait until the last minute, as parts shortages are sure to follow on the heels of procrastination.
RLLD Commercial Lighting understands that many of your clients may be very hesitant to spend money in a time of recession. However, this fear can be overcome by pointing out the many benefits that commercial fluorescent light fixtures bring to the table. Showing how this evolving technology is actually a way of recession proofing a business with an investment in a lasting, long-term solution will be pivotal to your negotiations. Equally pivotal will be the ability to systematically calculate the precise number of fixtures your client’s site will need and determine at the scientific level the optical photometric and CRI levels you will need to deliver for a truly superior solution.
