The best lighting choice you can make for the plants in your garden is choosing to use compact fluorescent light bulbs. There are many reasons why they are best, and I will do my best to explain those reasons for you here. I’ve used them in my home for over five years, and have never been let down.
Planting a garden outside comes with many risks (animals, weather, etc). I like to avoid these risks by planting indoor gardens. A great thing about compact fluorescent light bulbs is that you don’t need to worry about placing your plants where the sun can reach them, because the CFLs will do the sun’s work. Full spectrum daylight compact fluorescents will have your plants thinking they’re basking in sunlight all day, even if they’re in a windowless basement.
Full spectrum daylight CFLs have a color temperature of 6500K (6500 degrees Kelvin), which lighting manufacturers agree is the approximate color temperature of the sun at high noon. This light combined with full spectrum technology allows compact fluorescent light bulbs to emulate the sun, allowing plants to grow anywhere you like. CFLs create very little heat as well, so you don’t have to worry about harming any of your plants.
Gardening with compact fluorescents is easy and fun. It’s really great to watch your plants grow under the light of CFLs, knowing you can move them around if you need to without endangering them. You can plant a garden anywhere you can turn on compact fluorescent lights. It takes some consideration with regard to placing the light bulbs, but in the end when done right your garden will prosper.
