If you keep up to date on the lighting industry, you’re probably familiar with the advent of LED light bulbs. They’re even more energy efficient than compact fluorescent light bulbs and fluorescent tube lamps, and they contain no mercury. However, they are still too new to have consumer-friendly prices, so if you want energy efficient lighting, compact fluorescent light bulbs and fluorescent tube light bulbs are still the way to go.
Knowing this, lighting manufacturers are scrambling to increase the energy efficiency of current fluorescent light bulbs. I read about a recently released new light bulb by Halco, a leading fluorescent tube lamp manufacturer. They were able to reduce the energy consumption of one of their most popular bulbs by around 21%. The original bulb required 32 watts for its lumens; the new fluorescent tube lamp requires only 25 watts to produce the same lumens.
This is one of the benefits imminent new technology creates; old technology is reevaluated and improved upon to retain as stable a customer base as possible. Regardless of the reason for the improvement, we all benefit. Imagine if even half the users of the old version of this light bulb switched to the new more energy efficient version. The energy savings would be vast, not to mention future money saved by the adopters of this new fluorescent tube lamp.
The new fluorescent tube lamp is fully compatible with everything that is using the old version. In a few years when fluorescent lamps purchased today begin to fail, this bulb will step in to save the day by reducing energy consumption, and thereby harmful emissions caused by energy creation.
